Senior Expert Process Control Technologies (PCT) Engineer


The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Expert Process Control Technologies (PCT) Engineer, are to:

  • Demonstrate high level of facilitation skills to reach consensus, work toward win-win solutions for business benefit;

  • Coordinate strategic and tactical activities with counterpart globally;

  • Utilize Bayer global and regional standards and knowledge documents and comply with all regional or local regulations related to PCT and Electrical;

  • Utilize the proper PCT technologies (i.e. instrumentation, safety, control systems, SCADA, BMS, electrical) for safe and efficient operations of facilities;

  • Partner with and lead teams of division and discipline colleagues to define and execute continuous improvements in PCT process technologies or capital execution processes to drive improved productivity and quality, in consultation with internal and external resources;

  • Coordinate interfacing with other engineering disciplines, operations and maintenance;

  • Support rotational developmental assignment opportunities to further strengthen leadership and increase network between countries or business groups;

  • Be responsible for the PCT discipline lead/support for projects in their respective pharmaceutical, consumer health or crop protection facilities in the North America region;

  • Provide and direct necessary PCT engineering resources;

  • Be in charge of key parameters of performance include schedule compliance, scope compliance, project quality and cost control;

  • Be involved in problem solving decisions on a daily basis;

  • Be responsible for assessing of alternative solutions and analysis and resolution of complex problems centered around PCT and associated processes;

  • Have strong technical expertise and ability to adapt to and manage changing circumstances;

  • Have flexibility with assignments in different units/plants/sites;

  • Be able to manage responsibilities at different locations simultaneously;

  • Ensure the adherence to standards and guidelines especially as related to PCT documentation, configuration conventions and testing;

  • Have expert knowledge in the PCT corporate and national standards, procedures and practices;

  • Ensure the approval for deviations only if expert opinion deems deviation acceptable;

  • Identify customer’s requirements and negotiation with hardware, services, software suppliers and installation/commissioning contractors for the best cost/benefit solution;

  • Lay the framework for developing projects of larger scope and be often called upon for guidance and decision;

  • Coach and mentor junior members of the department.


Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university (or equivalent) in Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Architecture, Electromechanics, Mechatronics, Industrial or Information Systems engineering with strong interest in control and/or power systems with at least 10 years of experience in pharmaceutical, chemical or industrial facilities PCT design and engineering or equivalent experience OR Master’s degree with at least nine years of experience OR Ph.D. with at least six years of experience;

  • Professional registration and/or certification as appropriate;

  • Good knowledge of safety systems documentation, automation validation, quality assurance, etc.;

  • Good knowledge of process control strategies and systems;

  • Good knowledge of low/medium/high voltage electrical systems;

  • Strong computer hardware and software skills;

  • Excellent knowledge of relevant national and international standards in the area of instrumentation and electrical (i.e., NEC, IEC, etc.);

  • Excellent knowledge of project control skills including project planning, scheduling, cost control and contract development;

  • Good knowledge in providing field support and participating in check out, commissioning and start-up of process control installations;

  • Systematic approach to problem definition and solution development;

  • Ability to build cross-functional teams and to manage multiple projects simultaneously;

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at different levels of management, engineering and design and with internal customers (e.g. engineering, maintenance, operations) and suppliers of electrical material and services;

  • Excellent verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain cooperation from team members involved with engineering, design, check out, commissioning and start-up;

  • Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical and scope documents required for project execution;

  • Business-proficiency of oral and written English language;

  • Willingness and availability to travel 20 - 50% depending on project or business needs;

  • General understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements and responsibilities.
