The Director of Public Works will make the final selection and appointment.ABOUT THE POSITIONThere are two positions vacant. This recruitment may also be used to fill future openings.This position performs a variety of public works maintenance tasks; and operates light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment. Road Maintenance Worker II is a journey level position and is expected to perform semi-skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment on a continuous assignment. Requires prior experience.SALARY RANGE$2,973--$3,813iper month plus benefitsSalary ranges have six steps with approximately 5% between each step. New employees normally start at step one and after satisfactory performance during a 12-month probationary period, advance to the second step. Thereafter, annual step increases are based upon satisfactory performance.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance-Possession of a valid California Class A Commercial Driver License; Combination of Vehicles, Double/Triple Trailers and Tank endorsements required. A current California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) 10 year printout (H-6) will be required from the successful applicants upon receiving a job offer.-One year of increasingly responsible experience performing road maintenance work involving the operation of construction equipment.-Operation of power equipment, including trucks and related equipment, tools, methods, and materials used in road and bridge construction, maintenance, and repair.-Must meet the requirements for DOT Safety Sensitive positions, including Drug and Alcohol Testing.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESConstruct and repair bridges, culverts and drain pipes; inspect bridges and culverts; form, pour and finish concrete; install guard rails.Perform minor repairs on equipment and report the need for major repairs; check and adjust fluid level; change oil; grease and lubricate moving parts as required.Prune trees and brush; operate boom truck, chipper machine and chain saws; clean and maintain roadside; clean ditches and culverts.Clean, maintain and operate power tools, welder and other tools.Prepare mix for patching roads, overlays and shoulders; spread asphalt and asphalt base in patching, repairing and reconstructing roads, overlays and shoulders.Perform additional construction and maintenance tasks including concrete work, oil spreading; build fences; jack-hammering and a variety of repair activities.Install temporary construction signs; direct and control traffic around work sites.Operate heavy power-driven equipment on a relief training basis.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.BENEFITSCalPERS retirement plan, either 3 @ 60 for Classic; or 2 @ 62;ideferred compensation plans available; paid holiday, vacation and sick leave; Health Reimbursement Arrangement; paid health insurance, dental insurance, vision and life Insurance for emplo
