Thermo Fisher Scientific Supervisor, Chemical & Solvent Management in Foster City, California

The Chemical Management & Solvent Replenishment Management (CMS/SRS) Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision of 10-12 Site UnityTM Lab Services personnel working in our customer site. Enable our team to deliver excellent service to our customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads a team of on-site staff. Trains, and evaluates staff's performance. Supervises staff based on four values: Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement and on open communication. Seeks development opportunities for team & promotes a friendly, good morale and cooperation

  • Meet customer needs and high-quality service is delivered, including meeting, exceeding service levels, productivity, attendance records. Measure & report performance metrics. Assist in determining resolution of all customer situations. Ensure customer focused orientation

  • Regularly interact with management and customers on matters concerning functional areas within the CMS/SRS department

  • Ensure customer solvent needs are met via inventory replenishment system

  • Monitor tracking, accuracy, data, physical audits, safety, disposal/purge status using customer system (CisPro/BioVia)

  • Meet chemical transfers requirements over public roads (DOT regulations), Work closely with customer EH&S on safety requirements

  • Collaborate with Site Manager to quantify value creation for the customer through data collection and reporting. Oversee the creation, update and administer SOP's to support department/customer goals and objectives. Develop KPI's, tracks trends, implement best practices. Report metrics, identify opportunities, act as resource for sales, act as resource for customer in service, savings & opportunities.

  • Conduct site assessments, for opportunities and continuous improvements.

  • Evaluates employees' training needs, identify solutions and arranges for training and development. Ensures employees are cross trained & create employees career path and succession plan

  • Utilize Practical Process Improvement and focus on improving processes. Lead improvement teams and mentor team to lead team improvement efforts.

  • Prepare and review various operational reports and associate performance reports

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Prepares and enforces policies to establish a culture of safety

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science/chemical related field is preferred, but will consider a degree in Management, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of two-year degree and science/chemical experience is considered.

  • At least two to three years of experience in a supervisory role required.

  • Experience in laboratory setting is preferred; candidate must be familiar and have an in-depth understanding of CMS/SRS operations.

  • Overall understanding of service management, customer satisfaction.

  • Proven excellence in customer service skills.

  • Detail oriented, problem solver, promotes team environment.

  • Must have experience resolving CAPAs (Corrective And Preventive Actions).

  • Excellent computer/software skills. (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills.

  • Must be flexible with hours.

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Must possess supervisory skills to lead, coach, relate and motivate your employees, ustomer and peers. Must have a customer orientation to develop relationships

  • Have in-depth knowledge of CMS/SRS operations, understanding of GMP and GDP criteria. Experience hosting and responding to inside audits & from outside regulatory bodies

  • Possess written and communication skills to clearly express ideas, share technical information, communicate with customers at all levels of the organization, write SOP's and develop plans. Handle conflict well and give positive and constructive feedback along with managing performance issues.

  • Must possess analytical and critical thinking ability to be able to evaluate, interpret information and procedures, to make timely decisions while functioning in a fast-paced, changing work environment.

  • Must possess organizational skills to meet deadlines and assist staff in multi-tasking.

  • Must be able to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills in dealing with a variety of routine and non-routine issues.

  • Must be self-motivated, stress and pressure resistant, as well as a quick learner.

  • Computer literate and able to learn and perform, utilizing customer and internal systems for documentation, SOPs and training.

Working Conditions:

Works at customer location, office environment to include cubicles and/or in and around shipping/receiving docks, stock rooms, storage locations and laboratory environments.

  • Will be required to work independently at customer location.

  • Extensive walking may be required.

  • May pass through areas where chemical based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc).

  • Must be able to lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds occasionally; may be required to lift 40 lbs occasionally

  • Be able to use material handling equipment ie. push carts and pallet jacks

  • Depending on area of building, PPE may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets and/or safety gloves.

Some areas require steel toe shoes, bump hats and/or safety glasses. Must be able to work hours required to get the job done.
