National University VP of Social Justice Equity Diversity & Inclusion - Communication and Partnerships in La Jolla, California

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, Social Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (S-JEDI), the Vice President, Communication and Partnerships will design and execute communications strategies in support of the S-JEDI culture at the System and will play an important role in building internal and external understanding and support of the System?s commitment to S-JEDI. The Vice President, S-JEDI Communication and Partnerships will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to advance the S-JEDI mission. Serve as an advisor to the Vice Chancellor, S-JEDI to bring credibility and a deeper understanding of the complexity of S-JEDI across the System. The Vice President, S-JEDI Communication and Partnerships will possess a positive and dynamic management style, combined with superior communication skills and high credibility; able to gain followership and attain buy-in from internal stakeholders; capable of successfully navigating a complex organizational matrix; ability to interface with Senior Leadership team effectively; comfortable with broad and frank discussions; ability to coach and mentor across the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop a global strategy, plan, execution and metrics of joint communication campaigns and tactics including events, campaigns, and communications to, through and with partners.

  • Develop the strategy and framework for S-JEDI internal and external communications.

  • Develop and execute plans that position the Vice Chancellor, S-JEDI and other key stakeholders as internal and external thought leaders.

  • Partner with various groups to develop and drive social media and thought leadership that enable the System to showcase S-JEDI commitment, voice, and accomplishments.

  • Partner with business and HR leadership on the design and implementation of communication plans to attract, retain, and promote a diverse workforce.

  • Lead multiple groups responsible for planning and execution of joint communication campaigns and tactics including events and campaigns. This includes leading the internal councils, setting goals for the council?s working groups, and responsibility for the Council delivering against those goals.

  • Own the marketing plan to drive demand within partner organizations.

  • Create and maintain positive and productive relationships with the partners.

  • Evaluate the marketing performance of partners and recommend improvements.

  • Lead multiple, diverse teams and coach them through partner engagement strategies and integrated plans for each team?s focus area..

  • Collaborate with multiple internal teams, including marketing.

  • Champion diversity and inclusion internally and externally by approaching programming with S-JEDI in mind.

  • Oversee execution of multiple, simultaneous communications programs that require balancing trade-offs and high-speed tactical execution.

  • Act as an advisor on diversity and inclusion communications, training, and department led initiatives. Monitor departments? diversity and inclusion action plans.

  • Represent National University System on industry councils, including presenting the company?s programming and initiatives.

  • Manage external diversity partnerships to build the brand and to provide development and networking opportunities for diverse talent.

  • Monitor trends in the marketplace, identify opportunities, and develop strategies to meet emerging needs.

  • Grow internal resource group strategy, provide leadership and support to empower and strengthen internal communities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor?s degree in communications or related discipline, master?s degree preferred.

  • Experience in diversity and inclusion; preferably a minimum of seven years? relevant experience.

  • 12+ years of experience in marketing or communications with an emphasis in diversity, equity and inclusion campaigns, event, and/or partner marketing.
