You will work from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawing and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out work.
You will apply knowledge of the construction of commercial and industrial facilities, utilities and equipment to complete repairs, remodeling and retrofitting of buildings.
You will determine the extent of repairs required and address additional needed work, listing materials, parts and other items necessary.
You will apply trade principles, theories and methods to ensure acceptable application of methods and techniques.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Construction Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by 1) Constructing, altering and repairing structures where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness or appearance are important; 2) Performing framing and drywall installation; 2) Preparing surfaces for finish by smoothing, filling, shaping and leveling patching compounds; 3) Mixing and applying coating materials such as enamels, latex, and varnishes using acceptable trade methods; 4) Evaluating structures to plan and lay out repair and modification projects. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. Work is frequently performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. You will push, pull, reach, walk, stand, kneel, bend and work in cramped positions for sustained periods of time. You will frequently lift, carry and set up items weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally you may lift items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. You will frequently be exposed to slippery floors, scaffolding works, moving objects and sharp edges. Work involves possibility of exposure to slips, falls, cuts, bruises, and noise. Work may be performed outside in various weather conditions and is subject to dampness, rain and high and low temperatures. A forty hour work week is typical for this position. Recruitment incentives may be authorized to eligible new hires. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee.
