This Key Role is responsible for the operation of communications security and for cryptographic modernization of legacy COMSEC equipment, implementing comprehensive COMSEC, training, and electronic key management services. Support services include cryptographic security, transmission security, emission security, traffic-flow security and physical security of COMSEC equipment. Track COMSEC requirements, ensuring implementation of approved processes, providing coordination of task/activation/deactivation of all equipment, status monitoring and reporting, receiving COMSEC devices into the controlled cryptographic items (CCI) inventory, bar-coding of new COMSEC devices, power testing of COMSEC devices received. Develop and maintain a Cryptographic Key Management Support Plan as part of the Cryptographic Support Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), develop and maintain a Cryptographic Troubleshooting Guide for the controlled cryptographic items, uses test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment to determine the cause and location of malfunctions, extent of faults, and category of maintenance required, performs bench equipment tests to verify operability of repaired equipment, and ensures emission security standards are met. Ensures that National Security Agency approved components are used in communication security/CCI repairs, provide shop supervisor with equipment repair status, priorities, and necessity for bench stock resupply, perform final or quality control inspection of repaired equipment, control and account for CCI within the repair facility. Conduct network and telecommunications system incident investigation. Apply workaround solutions for known errors per documented methods and procedures. Analyze network and telecommunications system logs and identify potential issues. Perform network system backups per documented methods and procedures. Monitor network and telecommunications system performance and respond to anomalies and issues according to defined procedures. Knowledge of COMSEC electronic key management systems and local site key management policies.
Provide COMSEC support including key management, key renewal, and reporting. Ability to provide administration of Local Management Device/Key Processor (LMDKP) and Key Management Infrastructure (KMI).
Installs, maintains, configures, and troubleshoots COMSEC equipment. Installs vIPers secure phone and indoctrinates users in the proper operation and safeguarding of the secure terminal and associated key. Operates and maintains COMSEC secure voice and data products. Programs and operates approved key fill devices such as KIK-20 and Simple Key Loader (SKL).
