Peraton Corporation Jr./Mid-Level Software/Systems Engineer - Deep Space Network in Monrovia, California
We are seeking a Jr./Mid-Level Software/Systems Engineer to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) Operations and Maintenance O&M contract with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA, in our Monrovia, CA office.
The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft andreceiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.
Designs, develops, evaluates and modifies systems and systems-oriented products. Gathers information concerning the capabilities of products; investigates the technical capabilities of enterprise products and competing equipment and/or solutions; stays abreast of developments in hardware and software; analyzes customer problems; assists in designing systems to satisfy customer needs. Researches, collects, and reports information on the ability and capacity of products. Coordinates resolution of product/service issues, upgrades, and provides innovative solutions to problems, prepares and presents mitigation or enhancement proposals.
Coordinates the planning, design, and installation of services, using knowledge of data processing systems, Relational Database Applications, Web Application implementation, and system integration including the DSN O&M IT infrastructure, as an integrated end-to-end service, to improve security, efficiency, and collaboration. This includes IT asset management, implementation of security controls necessary to comply with the JPL IT security requirements, user access management, configurations, and accreditation support activities.
Provides technical guidance to management on changing trends and emerging products in the industry with the view to further improve existing technology and its application.
Provides leadership, direction and guidance to the DSN O&M for maintaining an active, efficient and effective Risk Management planning process.
Facilitates a methodology for complete Root Cause analysis and implementation of improvements, efficiencies, or corrective actions using formal problem-solving techniques including Lean Six Sigma tools.
Develops and maintains manuals, drawings, system specifications, electronic and hardcopy files of customer installations, calibration records, maintenance records, and quality control information.
BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or other related Engineering discipline
2+ years of relevant work experience with software and systems engineering
Experience with multi-threaded applications development, Networking, API, REST, TCP/IP and UDP
Experience with C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and Windows O/S
Experience with the coordination and scheduling of a project within a mixed team environment; knowledge of MS Project is a plus
The ability to undergo a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship
Familiarity with the Deep Space Network (DSN).
Experience with any of: Back-End Development and other S/W languages: T-SQL, Entity Framework, LINQ, Web API.
Excellent written and verbal language skills are required with the ability to communicate effectively.
The ability to work in a team environment; bring innovative ideas; be able to present briefing material to the customer during formal design reviews; demonstrate good problem solving skills.
Strong qualitative and quantitative skills.
The ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
