Tableau is the leading visual analytics platform in Business Intelligence, and it's revolutionizing the industry all over again with Ask Data — an NLP-powered analytics system designed to enable anyone in an organization to ask questions about their data.

Ask Data broadens the accessibility of analytics through simple and intuitive interfaces that require less expertise and data familiarity than traditional analytical tools. The Semantics team helps enable this by enriching the data models behind Ask Data with richer semantics, applied through analytical constraints and smart recommendations during natural language query interpretation and analysis. Come join a fast-paced and tight-knit team that’s leading the next evolution of Tableau.

We’re looking for an experienced leader to guide and expand our team in the Palo Alto office as we pursue this vision.

In this role, you'll…

  • Own the end-to-end development and delivery of semantic modeling technology for Ask Data, including data processing pipelines, automated enrichment algorithms, and user interfaces.

  • Shape development methodologies within the team with opportunities to influence best practices as a key leader within the Augmented Analytics organization, a critical pillar of Tableau's product development strategy.

  • Collaborate with product management and user experience colleagues to bring useful and delightful experience to our customers.

Who you are…

  • Experienced — You have 5+ years of experience developing code, 3+ years managing or mentoring developers and a proven track record of leading teams to ship software.

  • Educated — You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field, or are similarly self-taught.

  • Technical — Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent. You have a solid technical foundation, established through learning and experience. You can mentor engineers in applying and shaping software development methodologies.

  • Strategic — You think about the big picture and can help others connect their work to the bigger picture through effective written and verbal communication.

  • Adaptable — You're comfortable working on open-ended projects, constantly learning and adjusting your plans based on new information and constraints.

  • Proactive — You don't wait for defects to occur or new projects to be handed to you. You have a knack for anticipating problems and opportunities and are self-motivated to venture beyond the obvious.

  • Leader — You’re smart but humble. You express your own opinion passionately but stand by the group decision once committed. You get the best out of your team (including yourself).

  • Learner — You're always expanding your areas of knowledge beyond your comfort zone, developing whatever skills you need to make your vision and the vision of the team a reality.

  • Team Builder — You have demonstrated the ability to recruit and develop talent. You’ve built and led high-performing teams. Experience in growing a new location for a multi-site development team is a strong plus.
