Lead Data Engineer

Salesforce is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our engineering team.

You will be working with a group of world-class engineers, architects, and product managers to build the breakthrough features, the internal customers (datacenter build teams) will love, adopt and use while ensuring stable and scalable applications. You will also be working with data scientists to innovate and deliver analytics solutions using Big Data analytics technologies. You'll be a part of a modern, lean, self-governing engineering team where you have the ability to switch hats between coding to requirements gathering, to testing for quality and performance.

Infrastructure Analytics provides intelligent, data driven tools which enable Salesforce capacity planners to identify, triage, and remediate infrastructure cost and utilization incidents at Salesforce scale across multiple cloud providers (1st Party and Public Cloud). We apply advanced machine learning techniques to turn the petabytes of data generated by our global infrastructure into actionable predictions and business insights used by capacity planners and technical leaders daily. As an internal tooling team, engineers are expected to directly interact with customers to develop requirements and design, release and maintain distributed systems with visibility throughout Salesforce.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about building scalable, resilient, distributed systems that collect, process, and analyze massive volumes of operational data. The technology stack includes Hadoop, Hive, Airflow, Docker, Postgres, and microservices with opportunities to work in cloud native environments.

Your Impact:

  • Lead feature development being delivered by multiple engineers

  • Lead and participate in requirement, design, and development discussions

  • Independently design and deliver software solutions for products and features

  • Master our development process, culture, and code base, then improve it

  • Build Cloud/Web-based solutions and have the ability to grasp a variety of unfamiliar technologies and integrate them quickly

  • Mentor others in development technologies, tools, and processes

  • Present your own designs to internal/external groups and review designs of others

  • Develop test strategies and frameworks to drive up code coverage and automation metrics

Required Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science and 8+ years of experience, or equivalent industry experience

  • Deep knowledge of two or more object oriented programming and other scripting languages: Java, C++, C#, Ruby, Go, Scala, Python, Node.JS

  • 5+ years of WebServices, REST, RDBMS/SQL and Full stack development experience

  • Experience with Agile development methodology, Test-Driven Development, incremental delivery, and CI/CD

  • Experience owning and operating services throughout the software development lifecycle including design, development, release and maintenance.

  • In depth experience of design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency

  • Experience communicating technical vision, mentoring junior engineers and managing projects.

Desired Skills/Experience:

Specialization in one of the following areas:

  • Big data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark or MapReduce frameworks

  • Javascript, React, Typescript, D3 or related frameworks

  • Understanding of Data Science/Machine Learning concepts, experience working with Data Scientists and operating ML models in production services

  • Experienced in infrastructure automation and cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP
