General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems Material Planner 1 in San Diego, California
Plan, schedule, monitor, and analyze the movement of material through key work centers within the facility to ensure that the Master Schedule is executed. This position works closely with Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Engineering to ensure customer needs and organizational objectives are met. Working with production supervisors and purchasing, labor issues, material issues, and capacity must continually be balanced and communicated.
Provides planning support to various tasks/projects including performance monitoring, materials analysis, reporting, and expediting.
Establishes weekly work center schedules to support both Low Mix and High Mix products.
Identifies resource capacity constraints by work center and recommends appropriate action as required.
Interfaces with operations and support groups (Purchasing, Finance, Master Scheduler, Quality) to eliminate barriers that prevent constant flow of product.
Identifies potential shortage situation and initiates action to limit impact to the production schedule.
Demonstrates use of IFS to research and interpret data for inventory, purchase requisitions, purchase orders and other transactions to aid in the development and publishing of reports.
Demonstrates the ability to apply knowledge of concepts and principals of planning to develop solutions to a variety of problems.
Monitor shop orders throughout the assembly process and proactivity identify idle product, coordinate resolution through appropriate support groups
Demonstrates strong analytical, technical, problem solving, and multitasking skills.
Advises status of work in progress, material availability, potential risks to supervisors and management to ensure that equipment, materials, and services are provided as needed.
Assesses material shortages and delivery dates to ensure all appropriate personnel are aware and take appropriate actions.
Interprets engineering change orders (ECO), implements dispositions affecting stock and work in progress.
Ability to develop tools to improve production planning activities and better track and manage work in progress.
Performs other duties as required.
Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, 2-3 years’ of experience in a manufacturing /production environment preferred. APICS or equivalent course study desired.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate verbally and written in a clear professional manner
Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP
Solid knowledge of forecasting and planning principles
Solid knowledge of inventory management principles
Solid knowledge of mathematics and statistical data analysis
Ability to multitask and prioritize complex assignments
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
