The Senior Payroll Accountant will support our Accounting team in overseeing all transactions within Payroll. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting bi-weekly payroll runs, ensuring accurate tax information, and partner with external vendors in preparing W2’s. In addition, you will assist in preparing payroll journal entries and month end reconciliation along with any auditing needs. Join us and be a part of excellence!
Processes payroll for the organization, including: bi-weekly payroll, retroactive payments, bonuses, status changes, timesheet verification, new hires, terminations, final checks, special pay adjustments and disbursements, etc.
Ensures timely and accurate processing and payments for all levies, wage garnishments, and judgments against employees. Completes any required associated reports. Responds to inquiries from agencies and/or employees regarding payments and deductions.
Oversees multi-jurisdictional taxation, including remote employee taxation. Registers for any new tax jurisdictions and makes updates with existing tax agencies, as necessary. Files quarterly and year-end payroll tax returns for federal, state and local taxes, as required. Researches and resolves any issues related to tax return filings, penalty notices, abatement request, etc.
Prepares payroll journal entries, ensuring consistent and accurate GL coding. Conducts monthly reconciliations of payroll, benefits, 401(k), employee stock transactions, tax filings, etc.to ensure the integrity and accuracy of payroll data.
Works with the payroll vendor to prepare W2s, ensuring their accuracy. Prepares off-cycle and year-end payrolls to amend W2s, as necessary.
Supports and participates in audits, internal and external, preparing and providing any necessary documentation. Conducting research to ensure any anomalies and/or expectations are explained and resolved.
Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of all payroll systems to independently research and resolve payroll issues; reaching out to vendors, as necessary.
Documents and maintains payroll accounting process and procedures. Provides recommendations for streamlining or automating processes.
Work cross-functionally with other Accounting teams on projects, financial audits, and financial reporting.
Prepares required regulatory reports, financial reports, management reports, etc
Maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Experience & Skills Required
Associate’s Degree or above in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
4 years experience processing and reconciling payroll.
Experience with employee stock programs, preferred.
Strong knowledge and experience with general accounting.
Strong understanding of state and federal payroll and tax regulations
Working knowledge of enterprise resource management and other accounting and finance related systems.
Proven ability to maintain excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid experience building and improving processes and promoting quality.
Strong analytical and decision making skills with established understanding of financial implication of decisions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to present complex issues in a simple and easy to understand manner.
Strong organizational skills, ability to coordinate multiple tasks and support projects of varying complexity concurrently.
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team; capable of effectively engaging with professional staff.
