Aerotek Sr. Research Associate, Cell Culture/DNA in San Diego, California

Description:

The candidate will help develop, test, and validate workflows for the isolation of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) genomic DNA from various human sample types for analysis on the Saphyr® system. The long-range information derived from these assays can be used for de novo assembly, scaffolding of NGS contigs and structural variation analysis. This position requires a hardworking, meticulous person with outstanding laboratory skills. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Isolate UHMW genomic DNA from a variety of human sample types

• Perform DNA labeling of these DNAs for analysis on the Saphyr platform

• Support development of new SP kits for additional sample types

• Work with a supervisor, identify and test parameters to improve the process

• Develop and validate reagents and protocols

• Perform data analysis, summarize, and present data

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Product development experience

• Significant hands-on experience with mammalian cell/tissue culture

• Hands-on experience with DNA isolation and manipulation

• Hands-on experience with common laboratory instrumentation

• Working knowledge of DNA modifying reagents/enzymes

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel

• Detail oriented with strong troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills

• Excellent time management skills

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with DNA isolation from FFPE tissue blocks, Spit/Buccal Cells, MEOH:Acetic fixed cells, tissues and tumors

• Experience working in a BSL-2 environment

• Experience working in a clinical laboratory environment or developing laboratory tests

Education and Experience Requirements:

• BS/MS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering or a related field

• A minimum of 5+ years working experience in an industry or academic setting
