Department Overview

The Electric Operations Investigations and Audit department is part of the Electric Operations Regulatory Compliance and Quality Management organization, where together we will imbed compliance and quality in all that we do. This work of this department is critical in our efforts to find compliance challenges so that we can fix them. The main functions of this new department are pre-audit preparation and support, incident reporting and investigation, Electric Operations data requests, regulatory guidance and new regulatory analysis and advocacy.

Position Summary

Provides Electric Operations-related regulatory guidance on existing and new regulations to Subject Matter Experts, Standards Owners, and Process Owners so that they can develop process and controls for their compliance with regulated activities and comply with regulatory requirements, standards, and procedures. Acts as liaisons and an interface with regulatory bodies, including those assigned to investigate specific aspects of PG&E's compliance practices; Prepares and responds to regulatory data responses. Provides thought leadership and critical-thinking on challenging issues associated with CPUC – SED/WSD, CAISO and non-CIP FERC compliance. Prepares and develops of self-report/compliance analysis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with electric operational leaders and subject matter experts to support strategic planning and decision-making regarding compliance matters.

  • Partner with Electric Operations (EO) Standard and Process Owners in how they conduct their compliance program activities to strengthen the company’s margin of compliance.

  • Anticipate changes in the regulatory environment and take action to prepare the organization, including participating as an expert with deep regulatory compliance expertise in the compliance plan and providing sound implementation guidance.

  • Provide consistently thoughtful and actionable EO compliance guidance, including effective corrective actions and mitigation plans.

  • Act as a consultant to groups internal and external to PG&E in order to benchmark company practices and promote effective regulatory compliance programs.

  • Provide thought leadership and influence stakeholders on challenging compliance issues including self-reports, data responses, NOV responses, potential Non-Conformances.

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced Compliance Specialists.

  • May oversee the development of cross-functional compliance training programs and/or evaluate issues and identify potential gaps.

  • May recommend systems to ensure that all documentation is current, complete, accurate and in compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Models an environment where all relevant documentation is entered into enterprise database systems.



High School or GED Diploma

10 years of experience in compliance with some experience as a subject matter expert on specific aspects of regulatory compliance as it applies to assigned area of business


Experience managing or leading complex, high risk projects

In depth knowledge of Compliance Management Framework and internal controls

Experience in compliance, job-related

SME knowledge of assigned area of business processes and procedures

In depth knowledge of Compliance Management Framework and internal controls

Able to evaluate, analyze, and present audit results to the audit client, audited organization and senior management

Analysis, communication, and group collaboration skills and ability to lead teams and promote employee engagement

Ability to influence others to achieve understanding, acceptance and commitment to act in support of ideas, programs or causes

Ability to develop and deliver training curriculum

Ability to monitor, gather and analyze information, to determine potential impacts, and recommend responses to challenges

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or job-related discipline or equivalent experience

Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), and California Independent System Operator (CAISO)

Experience leading external regulatory audits/visits (CPUC, non-CIP FERC, CAISO)

Experience in process engineering

PE-Professional Engineer license

ASQ-American Society for Quality CQE-Certified Quality Engineer Certification

LSS-Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification

PMI-Project Management Institute PMP-Project Management Professional certification

Proficient with Microsoft Visio and Project

MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & Visio skills

Working knowledge of SAP Work Management and Business Warehouse
