Children?s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade school serving over 470 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Spanning two campuses, and home to a diverse community of students, faculty, and families, CDS is a vibrant learning community. CDS is located on a beautiful, secluded half-acre in the Mission near Dolores Park. Our extended care program employs the use of indoor classrooms, environmental ed. kitchen, wood chips area and climbing structure, farm and garden (featuring four chickens and two sheep!), and a play yard among the largest of independent schools in the city.

CDS seeks a dynamic part time team member for the supervision of elementary students on our playground. The position will primarily work in an outdoor setting. Reporting to the Lower School Director, this position is responsible for monitoring and supervising activities for students in grades K ? 4 and supporting the health and safety protocols of the program. During school-day hours, this position will support school staff with daily check in and dismissal procedures and supervising recess and lunchtime outside. This position is temporary ending June 10, 2021

Daily schedule is 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday ? Friday (hours may vary slightly).

Responsibilities

  • Team: Collaborate, inspire, support, problem-solve and communicate with team members and the school day teachers.

  • Activities: Supervise lunch/snack, free play and program transitions.

  • Children: Provide a safe physical and emotional environment for all students. Encourage children to take initiative to solve problems. Help children think, investigate, ask questions and laugh. Strive to meet each child?s individual needs.

    The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • Have experience teaching or leading youth activities.

  • Display excellent classroom management.

  • Demonstrate the ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, students and parents.

  • Model behavior and language that supports our mission and our program. (Critical importance in adherence to COVID 19 Health and Safety Protocols)

  • Display excellent rapport with children and families.

  • Express the desire and ability to take on increasing responsibility in the CDS community, and to participate generously.

  • Display a passion for learning and a commitment to personal-professional growth.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Work effectively with children, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds and family structures.

  • Communicate and problem-solve with the school day teaching staff about students and families.

    Educational Requirement/Office Skills

  • Associate?s Degree (AA) or equivalent credit

  • Be proficient in technology: email, word processing, photos, etc.

    Compensation

    $19-22/hr depending on education and experience, 30 hours/week.
