About the role:
Cruise Hardware R&D team is on a mission to design best compute platforms for Autonomous Cars and the team is looking for a Senior BIOS engineer who has experience developing UEFI based system firmware (BIOS) for x86 server architectures. In this position, you will be working closely with Compute Hardware team who are responsible to create next generation Compute & Machine learning architectures. You will collaborate with Internal teams such as Embedded Systems, Linux Kernel developers & Security experts to gather high level features & requirements as well as work closely with external CPU chip vendors to understand their reference code to integrate with Cruise platform BIOS.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Work closely with hardware platform design owners to understand the system architecture, interfaces & various components connected to CPU
Interaction with Software stakeholders & Security teams to come up with the detailed requirements & proposals.
Research & investigate hardware & software security methods to meet Cruise safety & Security requirements.
Design and develop UEFI BIOS and preboot environment & validate functionality
Communicate firm requirements with Independent BIOS vendors (IBV) and ODM design partners as needed and assess their ability to design and capable to deliver high quality BIOS code.
Participate in board bring up activities along with hardware design & validation team members
Demonstrate the ability to apply analytical skills for debugging and troubleshooting critical early boot failures, BIOS related issues & low level hardware failures
Software systems testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.
You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications
Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent discipline
5 + years of experience with scripting & automation
In-depth understanding of server UEFI/BIOS components & Secure boot
Experience with x86 architecture and interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, eSPI, USB, I2C/SMBUS
Experience with UEFI/BIOS development tools such as AMI Aptio 4 or Aptio V
Knowledge of Linux Kernel
Strong organizational, communication & Presentation skills
Familiarity with RAS features, such as PCIe and DDR error handling and error injections
BIOS Security & Firmware Security development
