Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco Temporary Behavioral Health Specialist in San Francisco, California

Job Descriptions:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Temporary Behavioral Health Specialist will provide direct service, paraprofessional staff consultation, training and support for the afterschool youth development program. We seek a licensed or license eligible clinician to serve as our temporary Behavioral Health Specialist in a non-traditional, mental health setting, using a trauma-informed, community social work model. Our setting requires youth development, behavioral coaching, and skill development with a trauma-lens, along with more formal mental health skills (assessment, therapy, referrals, etc.). We are designed to bring mental health services to communities that don’t normally access supports and are seeking a professional with youth development experience.

This 4 months temporary position is full time and goes through August 2nd , 2019. There is a chance that this position will be extended beyond the 4 months and become a regular Full Time position. This position works at our Don Fisher and Columbia Park Clubhouse.

KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):

  • Lead case conferencing for paraprofessional staff team to coordinate linkages and referrals to services for youth members

  • Provide consultation to afterschool staff on mental health issues impacting children and youth Club members

  • Intervene in milieu, teach skills, and model appropriate interventions for youth and for paraprofessional staff team.

  • Provide coaching and support of para-professional Case Management staff and social work interns

  • Coordinate with mental health providers to identify treatment options for members

  • Assist with the development and implementation of agency-wide mental health policies and procedures

  • Facilitate staff training regarding mental health issues, which affect youth and are helpful in the Clubhouse setting

  • Consult with clinical team (off-site) proactively and preventatively

  • Provide crisis and de-escalation services for youth

  • Provide short-term, individual or family stabilization therapy for youth

  • Provide clinical case management for youth

  • Perform accurate and timely record-keeping and documentation of all client related activities (e.g., progress notes and treatment plans)

  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled clinical meetings and staff meetings

  • Work independently as the sole mental health triage provider on site, demonstrate effective critical thinking, decision-making and risk reduction

Required Experience:

SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Requires Masters (MSW/MA) or Doctorate from accredited school of Social Work, MFT or Psychology. Must be licensed or registered with BOP or BBS.

  • Minimum one-year previous post-graduate experience preferred

  • Spanish language skills preferred

  • Basic understanding of youth development services in an after school program

  • Experience working with high-risk adolescents and diverse communities

  • Criminal background clearance

  • Ability to move efficiently between locations

  • Current First Aid/CPR certification

  • Able to work afternoon and evening hours

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to move about to accomplish tasks, particularly for events or moving from one Club to another.

  • Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods
