Part-time Tutor - Sylvan Learning of SF Do you love kids? Love teaching? If so, read on! Sylvan Learning of San Francisco is a locally owned learning center serving a diverse group of K-12 students. We offer a warm, nurturing environment where students with a wide range of needs meet their educational goals. Our part-time instructors are the key to our success. Each instructor is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for students, drawing on proven Sylvan program materials. Instructors evaluate and communicate student progress and work with Center staff to ensure learning is personal for each student. You get to focus on the students. We handle all the parent communication, customer service, marketing and scheduling ,leaving you free to do what you do best: Teach! ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Greets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each student * Manages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session * Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment * Uses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn * Motivates students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan instructional management standards * Manages the conclusion of each instructional session and manages the completion of learning log and transition activities * Communicates specific student needs to Center staff * Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed * Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Language Arts and Study Skills Program Tutors: * Four year degree or equivalent required * Teaching credential (current or expired) strongly preferred * Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred * Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers Math Tutors: * Four year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college level math Science Tutors: * Four year degree required in a discipline requiring 2 or more years of college level science Test Prep Tutors: * Four year degree or equivalent preferred * Strong academic credentials required SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED * Bachelor's degree required * Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible * Strong problem solving and customer service skills * Strong team player SCHEDULE We offer instruction in person M-TH from 3:30 to 7:30 and Sat. from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. We offer online tutoring seven days per week. During the summer we also have instruction T-Th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. We are looking for tutors who are available for some or all of these hours! COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Salary: $18-21/hour DOE Benefits: Commuter benefits are offered to all employees.
