LLS has had enduring success with campaign-driven fundraising incorporating large-scale, professionally produced events. Multiple campaigns take place in markets throughout the country and leverage nationally defined best practices to achieve outstanding success year-over-year. The Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay Area (SVMB) chapter conducts several of these nationally recognized campaigns each year with an existing track record of success.
Based in San Jose, the Director, Special Events plays a critical role in the success of the chapter by leading a team of campaign specialists who in turn oversee all aspects of their respective campaigns. In total, the campaigns under the leadership of the Director, Special Events represent annual revenue in excess of $1.7 million for the chapter. Multiple campaigns are experiencing double-digit year over year growth.

Supervises:May supervise assigned staff, including Campaign Manager or Campaign Assistant
Duties & Responsibilities:
Implement a comprehensive strategic plan for assigned fundraising campaigns to include revenue and expense budgets, 2) volunteer recruitment and management, 3) effective event logistics, and 4) overall organizational best practices for successful campaign management
Identify target audiences and build appropriate recruitment and fundraising strategies to successfully recruit, acknowledge, retain, and upgrade event donors / participants
Utilize effective supervisory and training practices for campaign and support staff to deliver superior special events experiences for our donors / participants
Develop and deliver compelling engagement practices for volunteer campaign leaders and participants utilizing effective recruiting, mentoring, and on-going support strategies while focusing on the mission of LLS
Utilize proven promotional activities to ensure the success of events and to enhance public awareness of LLS and its mission
Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the campaigns, including fundraising efficiency (revenue/cost), community engagement, event satisfaction, and overall campaign success
Ensure media, material, in-kind and cash sponsorships are secured through a coordinated plan that includes proposal development, prospect identification, cultivation, retention, and recognition
Effectively manage campaign materials required for the successful implementation of assigned special events, including recruitment/promotional brochures, event invitations, training materials, pledge retrieval, and motivational materials
Assist as needed in developing and implementing strategies in support of other chapter activities
Maintain a working knowledge of LLS’s mission and programs to promote the Society’s fundraising, research and patient initiatives
Perform other related duties as needed
Education & Experience Requirements:
5 – 7 years fundraising or sales experience; event planning, marketing, communications experience desired
Previous experience as a Campaign Manager preferred
Strong background in volunteer recruitment, cultivation, and management
Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital, social media, and emerging online channels
Collaborative approach to working cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure
Highly proficient in verbal and written communication activities
Capable working effectively with a variety of personalities and leadership styles
Highly organized and capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively
Resourceful, enthusiastic, with a problem solving acumen
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Physical demands are minimum and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
May be required to lift and move campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events
Role requires frequent travel within the Chapter’s geography and occasional travel to national conferences and meetings
Required to work some evenings and weekends in support of campaign activities
