Cisco’s Security Business Group (SBG), is looking for a software engineer in development of back-end data processing and infrastructure systems in our Talos Security Intelligence organization. Our projects include working closely with Cisco's data research and Cloud Infrastructure groups on implementation of advanced information-retrieval algorithms, massive data processing and complex distributed transaction systems operating on large distributed datasets. Who we are.... Talos Backend Software DevOps the organization plays a pivotal role in providing critical security intelligence, data, and tools to both the research teams and Cisco security email, web, and firewall products to protect our enterprise customers from cyberattacks. What you'll Do... You will be part of a team that is responsible for a portfolio of software applications in the security backend to both innovate and maintain these mission-critical systems. Project delivery requires alignment to effective delivery processes, specifically Cisco Agile. You are required to collaborate with a wide range of multi-functional teams, both within and outside the organization to cover program management, architecture, infrastructure, deployment, and support during all phases of the software application life cycle. About You.... • You are comfortable with developing solutions to complex software engineering problems, requiring frequent use of innovation and creative finesse. • You have extensive experience with cloud-based large scale data processing systems development and delivery, with expertise in security, databases, large data sets and performance optimization. • You have strong communication skills to proactively represent the team in meetings, write a detailed functional spec, give a tech talk to other specialists, present a high-level product plan to executives, and report project status to managers. • You are passionate about winning over the bad guys. • You look at the big-picture and are able to turn ideas into demos, demos into shippable products, and data into efficacy. • You are comfortable with early- and late-phase software development, from concept to execution and performance optimization • You take hands-on ownership of your products from top to bottom: architecture, design, development, documentation, test, deployment, and operations. • You have a proven track record of delivering high-performing, maintainable, enterprise-quality software on schedule. • You have the discernment to know when you need a rocket ship and when you need a bicycle and the skills to plan, advocate for and deliver either one. • You are team-oriented and will enthusiastically unite diverse teams across the globe to tackle complex problems effectively. Technical Qualifications & Experience Must-haves..... • BS/MS/PhD in computer science or another relevant technical degree • 3+ years of extensive experience in application development using high-level languages, such as Java, Scala, C++, Go, Python, etc. • Demonstrate a solid understanding of Big Data concepts/methodologies • Demonstrate experience with high volume streaming data processing • Demonstrate experience with Virtualization and Cloud technologies (AWS, edge computing) • Demonstrate hands-on experience with Spark, Kafka, K8s, in-memory caching, standard and columnar data stores and graph store technologies • Demonstrate analytic and problem-solving skills, particularly as it relates to system and application designs, defining and driving server-side development and infrastructure architecture designs • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. • Demonstrate ability to speak the language of data analysis engineers, and be able to translate requirements into deployable solutions. • Expert in designing/implementing high-performance data-processing systems; extensive experience with concurrency and transactions • Experience with design and development of large scale high volume distributed enterprise application systems • Demonstrate excellent multi-level communication and relationship skills. Nice to haves... • Experience with high performance distributed computing • Firsthand experience with data warehousing concepts/methodologies • Experience with monitoring and observability implementations • Experience in a network the security-related area is preferable • Experience in providing technical leadership for the team and mentoring its members The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging in healthy debate with the team members and play an essential role in delivery of production-grade products. The development will be in a Unix-based environment and will leverage both off-the-shelf/open-source technologies, as well as in-house engineering.
