Northrop Grumman Aeronautic System's subsidiary, Sonoma Photonics, Inc. has an opening for a Principal Material Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Santa Rosa, CA.
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications.
Perform optical coating design, tolerancing, analysis and process engineering of optics for projects related to optical technologies.
Apply, as well as design and develop new techniques and coatings to meet product needs.
Individually contribute to product development or program completion.
The successful candidate can expect to receive technical guidance from more senior engineers, program managers, and supervisory review on proposed plans.
Work will be conducted in both an office and lab/mfg. environment with various temperatures and possible exposure to chemicals.
Bachelor of Science Degree in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) from an accredited University and 5 years of engineering experience OR 3 years engineering experience with Master's in STEM OR 0 years engineering experience with Ph.D.
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret clearance upon hire
Experience with statistical methods and analysis.
Ability to clearly present and communicate ideas, concepts, and plans.
Experience with optical thin films; thin film modeling software (TFCalc, Optilayer, etc.) preferred.
Minimum 6 years industry experience.
Strong background in electromagnetics preferred.
