We are seeking a highly motivated lipid specialist to join the Translational Mass Spectrometry team within Protein Sciences in Research at Genentech. Our group is responsible for molecular characterization of proteins and lipids by mass spectrometry, including the development and implementation of analytical methodologies to support early research programs in a variety of disease areas. The successful candidate will have an extensive background in lipid biology and lipid characterization, as well as expertise in sample preparation and quantitative mass spectrometric strategies such as Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM). The candidate will collaborate with scientists within research to identify, profile and quantify relevant lipid markers from tissue, biological fluid or cells. The individual would also be responsible for managing and maintaining Q-TRAP mass spectrometers, overseeing lipid-related technology development, and the bioinformatics infrastructure associated with data processing.
Successful candidate will have most of the following attributes:
MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience with liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
Expertise in developing quantitative MS methods (e.g. SRM, MRM, or HRM (DIA))
Strong analytical background including troubleshooting capabilities
Demonstrated expertise in lipid biology and analytical methods in lipidomics
Expertise in quantitative analysis of compounds from biological matrices, especially using HPLC and HPLC-MS techniques
Experience with standard supportive software such as Skyline, Analyst, MultiQuant and MSDial
Strong computational skills and the ability to analyze and interpret data independently
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, be able to work independently as well as in a team environment, and be willing and eager to learn new technologies
