Gilbane Environmental Technician II in Victorville, California

The Environmental Technician II supports the senior level superintendents to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed in the field in regard to safety, scheduing, budget, quality and customer satisfaction. The Environmental Technician II may be required to perform multiple tasks in support of senior technicians or senior scientist/engineers on a large project or a field lead on a small task, with responsibilities including oversight of subcontractors and junior level field staff on specific areas of the project. The position requires performance of a broad range of field and office activities such as planning, evaluating and implementing environment investigations, remediation, mitigation, and/or construction/demolition projects

• Enforce high safety standards including maintaining a clean job site and work environment

• Participate in and perform daily safety tailgate meetings and weekly safety inspections

• Understand project Health and Safety, Work, Sample and Analysis, Quality Control Plan requirements, details and specifications

• Work collaboratively and proactively with project field staff and subcontractors during implementation of project field schedules to ensure that milestone dates are met

• Supervise sample collection activities, oversee junior-level field sample technicians and/or subcontractors

• Inspect the quality of work for compliance with project plans, and ensure corrective actions occur when necessary

• Ensure that non-compliance or deficiency events, and their resolution, are communicated and documented

• Perform sample collection from various media (e.g., soil, water, air, sediment, soil vapor) in accordance with plan requirements and Gilbane Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Deliver or arrange for samples to be delivered to analytical laboratories, under proper chain-of-command procedures, as needed

• Prepare daily reports, particularly sampling documentation/logs that comply with all policies, and that daily work packages are distributed to the Client on time and as required.

• Maintain, calibrate and operate required field meters (i.e., for water quality, air quality, XRF), pumps, pressure gauges, and record results on field documentation

• Use GPS units to navigate to survey locations and collect data

• Lead physical set up and breakdown of injection equipment

• Support excavation and soil management activities

• Support materials and IDW management

• Load equipment for transportation, set-up equipment at the test site and demobilize equipment when testing is complete

• Provide operations and maintenance support -- on various remedial/mitigation systems (such as SVE/air sparge, amendment injection systems, pump & treat, thermal treatment, vapor intrusion/gas depressurization, downhole extraction pumps)

• Support environmental construction inspection

• Communicate clearly with regulatory representatives, subcontractors, and Gilbane project managers

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

• Minimum of 3 to 6 years experience in environmental remediation and construction program/project assignments in lead field technician capacities (particular on less complex field projects

• High School Diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience

• OSHA 40 hour certified with appropriate updates

• OSHA 30 hour trained

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Soild, groundwater, sediment, surface water, and air/vapor sampling

• Experienced with tools

• Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel) with the ability to electronically track and document project information

• Familiar with trouble shooting and basic familiarity with basic plumbing and electrical systems

• Conflict resolution and problem solving skills -- ability to proactively resolve issues with site superintendents, subcontractors and coworkers

• Detail-oriented with paperwork and documentation

• Clear communication skills in both written and verbal form

• Able to work autonomously or part of a team

• Self Starter, able to manage a changing workload

• Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines

• Basic understanding of human resource policies and procedures

• Basic understanding of employment law and regulations
