How will you make an impact?
Highly motivated Research and Product Development Scientist to join the Transplant Diagnostic Division. The new team member will lead the development and optimization of new and existing sequencing (Sanger, NGS, and Single Molecule) assays for transplant diagnostics applications. The role will have a direct impact on improving the lives of transplant patients.
The Scientist III, Research and Product Development role serves as a technical lead to explore new technologies and identify creative and robust solutions to overcome current technological limitations in sequencing-based products for the HLA genes or other relevant target genes.
What will you do?
Be the lead scientist toward developing and producing robust sequencing-based assays for transplant diagnostic applications.
Develop and implement quality control procedures for critical reagents and processes for the sequencing-based products.
Plan/create, execute, analyze, and document IVD product development activities with great attention to detail under a design control system.
Write reports and present results, project and technology assessments to Senior Management to enable them to make informed business decisions
Supervise and mentor junior team members
How will you get here?
Education / Experience
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Genetics or a related discipline in Biological Sciences AND 5 years of experience focusing on sequencing technology and its application, hands-on research and new method development experience. OR a master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Genetics or a related discipline in Biological Sciences AND 7 years of experience in product development focusing on NGS technology and its application.
3 years of prior experience in a product development role
Track record of developing diagnostic tests or reagent kits in a regulated environment; knowledge of design control systems.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with the proven ability to think innovatively toward solving technical and structural problems effectively and efficiently
Broad and deep knowledge in sequencing technologies (Sanger, NGS, and Single-Molecule), DNA isolation and quantification, gene amplification methods, quantitative PCR, and other relevant technologies
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with Production, Regulatory, and Manufacturing
Have a good working knowledge of IVD product requirements and clinical laboratory workflows and needs
Experience in designing experiments and interpreting complex data, and solve challenging issues to improve product performance with innovative approaches
Ability to communicate with other departments as a technical representative to assist in process improvement, customer inquiries, staff training as needed
Able to work effectively under pressure to meet scheduled deadlines and handle multiple activities simultaneously
Excellent oral and written communication skills required to clearly explain complex issues, progress reports and technical roadmaps to a variety of audiences across functions and levels
Knowledge and experience in HLA
Experience in bioinformatics and statistics
